Acid Alkaline Diet

Chronic diseases due to obesity are becoming rampant. People are becoming more obsessed on losing weight due to this fact. This is also the reason why experts have developed this very unique diet that could help dieters lose weight significantly.

Acid alkaline diet works by controlling the acid balance in the body. The acidity or pH level of the body affects the cells ability to function well. Most of the food and beverages available in the market, like meat, dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, sugars and saturated fats when metabolized leaves an acidic residue therefore creating an acidic environment for the cells. When the body fluid is acidic, it makes the person predisposed to cancer, arthritis, weight gain, kidney malfunctioning and many more. High acid levels also affect the person’s nervous system thus making the person easily confused, dizzy and irritable.

The main objective of having an acid alkaline diet is to make the body more alkaline than acidic. In early course of the diet, the main focus is to detoxify the body and in the long run it focuses more on maintaining the body’s acid-base balance. It works by eating foods that leaves alkaline residue and avoiding foods that leaves acid residue after they are metabolized.

Examples of alkaline food include vegetables, fruits like lemon, lime and avocado; almond and sesame seeds. Beverages that are alkaline in nature include pure water and herbal tea. In relation to the diet, you should limit your intake of meat like beef, chicken and crustaceans. Also avoid dairy products, margarine, and nuts such as cashew nuts and peanuts. For the beverages, avoid alcoholic drinks and smoothies.

The disadvantage of the acid alkaline diet is that it is very hard to follow. Human as we are, at times we could not help but give in to our cravings especially that the food that leaves acidic residue are the ones considered as the most delicious food of all time.
